Wood carving

I made this crib mobile for an acquaintance who was expecting her first child. I was honestly looking for an excuse to make something like this - I had been toying with the idea of trying to make a chandelier for a while but got stumped by the logistics and this felt like a good interim step.

It’s hand carved out of purple heart, yellow heart, padauk, and poplar and no stains were used - these are all the natural colors of the woods. They’re decorated with gold leaf and wood burned details, and finished with non-toxic, food safe tung oil and shellac and I also learned some macrame to make the hanger!
