Rebel Heifer

The Rebel Heifer design is deeply personal to me. I was born and grew up in Scotland, and in the years I’ve been living abroad I’ve become more and more fond of highland cows as a reminder of home. When I first started making art and I wanted to give my business a name, the image of a highland cow seemed perfect.

The name, Rebel Heifer, just came to me one night as I was thinking about what I wanted to convey to the world about who I am and what I stand for. I often feel like a rebel (or a troublemaker!), railing against systems and raising issues that I see around me, and I liked the idea of reclaiming a world like “heifer”. As women, we’re so often told not to take up space, to be quiet, to fit into neat little boxes.

Rebel Heifer is my way of reminding myself that it’s okay to be strong, big, loud, and unapologetically you, and that we all have to fight for what we believe in if we want things to change.
